Reiki Healing Arts

“For today only
Do not be angry
Do not be anxious
Be grateful
Work hard and
Be kind to others”
-Reiki Mantra

My entry into the world of energy healing over 15 years ago came about through my husband.  I was skeptical to say the least.  His background in Karate and Aikido opened his mind to life force and energy work far before me.  My turning point was when our Reiki master, along with my husband, effectively melted a frozen shoulder from my body that I had been plagued with for 3 years.

The horse offers the most authentic feedback and for that reason, the skeptic (me) suggested the horse for my case studies. Truthfully, I needed a voice to validate what I hypothesized. I read somewhere that horses have 10 times the sensitivity to energy shifts than humans and, most importantly, they pay attention to it.  A perk of being a prey animal, I guess.  The day I chose the horse I noticed an article in the local paper spotlighting a woman doing reiki on her quarter horse, Nibbles.  Sometimes you can’t ignore the signs.

WHY?

So why use this healing modality for your horse?  What’s this “life force” all about?  I asked myself that very question so back to the drawing board I went.  I figured if I could decipher why a horse puts me in certain areas during a reiki session, it might make more sense to me and my future clients.  Enter the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) of Acupressure (lay people are not allowed to “pierce the skin” (only vets technically), so touch was the best I could do.)  I studied for a year with the Tallgrass Acupressure Institute in Colorado to find my answers.  Simply said, Reiki moves life force (energy) throughout the meridian system (i.e., passageways) and, in so doing, invigorates lifeless acupressure points. In turn, vitality is restored, and the body heals itself.  By way of analogy, imagine a muscle with damaged fibers where blood is not able to circulate well. The healing process is slowed or stagnated, as blood flow is crucial to healing.  It is not until we gain circulation again through those muscles by way of massage or other subtle manipulation that healing resumes.  Similarly, Reiki optimizes the body’s unique healing potential through its meridian system with chi or life force.  That’s the simplest explanation I can give.

I always tell people wondering what Reiki can do for their horse to get a treatment for themselves. After that, they understand.

For the horse that has never had a human administer energy work, I recommend a 3-session minimum.  The 1st session is an introduction and healing.  The 2nd is “Yes, I remember how good this felt!” and the 3rd is the check in.  I also bring in my acupressure training to help answer wellness questions.  Please note I am not a veterinarian and I do not diagnose.

Namaste!
